Looking for something? Find it at a rec center!

It’s 2019 and what better time than the beginning of a new year to embark on a journey? For some, it’s a journey to eat healthier, while others look to explore new hobbies or shed themselves of bad energy. Whatever the goals for your journey, we’re pretty confident that the Virginia Beach Recreation Centers should be part of your destination!

Let us explain why. You may have recently seen a video we produced about an incredible man named Felix. Felix is a Navy veteran who lost both of legs. Now, it would have been pretty easy for him to throw in the towel and think that the options for his journey were limited…but then, you clearly haven’t met Felix! At Williams Farm, he met Parks & Rec team member, Brittany Waltz, and found just what he needed to set out on a new life journey towards a healthier and still active life. Brittany introduced him to the pool as a way to keep himself moving and not only did Felix lose 90 pounds, but he ignited something in himself again that has fueled his drive and given him a renewed energy. Felix found a network of support and his ambition at a rec center.

And then there’s Andrea Leber. Andrea is a world champion triathlete who is no stranger to a fit and action-filled lifestyle, but when an accident during a race brought all of that to a halt, she knew it was going to take more to get her back on her feet again. Andrea searched for a trainer that had the knowledge and ability to work with her as a mature athlete, and that’s just what she found with certified Personal Trainer, Ray Wong, at Bayside. Ray has a background in physical therapy and has helped Andrea build not only her strength but also her confidence as she works towards her first race back this summer.

There are countless stories of rec center members like Felix and Andrea who found that extra *something* with us at Parks & Rec. Will you be next? What do you want to find? VBgov.com/findyourfit
