4 Tips for Easing Back Into School Mode

With the last weeks of summer upon us, it’s a perfect time to start planning for a stress-free (or less stressful) transition back to school.

  1. Schedule a physical with your child’s pediatrician // This may be required by your child’s school, so be sure to check and make an appointment ASAP since doctor’s offices get very busy this time of year.
  2. Get back into a routine // Getting up and going to bed earlier is a good idea to start a couple weeks before the school year begins. This gives kids (and parents) a chance to adjust slowly before it becomes necessary on the first day of school. You’ll be glad you did when the time comes.
  3. Embrace meal prepping // Prepare some freezer meals to make dinnertime a breeze the first week of school. Virginia Beach Public Libraries has several paperback books and e-books on freezer meals to get you started. You’ll also want to start stocking up on healthy snacks and lunch items for your kiddos because they’ll perform their best in the classroom when they’re fueled properly.
  4. Register for before and after school childcare programs // Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation's before and after school programs offer enriching experiences conveniently located in your child’s school or nearby recreation center. Programs are designed for elementary and middle school students as well as licensed early childhood programs for ages 3-6. Find your program
